CarMax offers a matching gift program to full-time, part-time, and retired employees. Additionally, the Starbucks Foundation, a separate 501 organization grants money to nonprofits devoted to young people and leadership. Starbucks also, and not surprisingly, supports coffee, tea, and cocoa communities around the world.
The American Nurses Foundation is a separate charitable organization under Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation does not engage in political campaign activities or communications. Virginia Kelley Endowed Research Fund – Supports nursing research in the field of women’s health.
State Street’s Fundraising Match Program
The council has substantial leverage to press nursing home applicants to improve quality, but an examination of dozens of transactions in recent years show that power is seldom used. 1,500 gowns were distributed to Neville Center at Fresh Pond, Sancta Maria Nursing Facility, and Cambridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Unlike disposable gowns that need to be changed or thrown out after each use, these protective gowns can be washed and reused up to 600 times. Phone your local nursing home and ask to speak to the activities director or social worker. Inquire about what the nursing home or its residents need and/or want.
Other key personnel include the admissions director, social work director, nursing services director and medical director. Some nursing homes suggest that funds be placed in a trust that the nursing home controls or that your Social Security checks be made payable directly to the nursing home. The law guarantees you the right to control your own financial affairs as long as you are willing and able to do so, or to assign that responsibility to a friend or family member.

Their donation plan is multi-faceted and covers several areas of giving.
A Medicaid applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, meet New York State income and resource limitations and show medical need. Each nursing home is required to develop an admission policy and procedure that is in accordance with State and Federal regulations and does not unlawfully discriminate against applicants. However, nursing homes have discretion in making admission decisions and are not required to admit every applicant. A medical assessment must be performed before you can be admitted to a nursing home. This assessment is completed by a registered nurse who has been certified to conduct the assessment. The assessment is a two-step process and is specifically designed by NYS DOH to evaluate your functional status, as well as your appropriateness for a nursing home.

Few people can afford to pay for nursing home care out of their own pocket for very long (costs can be $10,000 or more a month). Most nursing home residents are reliant upon State and Federal subsidies. The nursing home administrator, admissions director or social work director will be able to explain arrangements for your admission to the nursing home. If you are receiving care in a hospital, your doctor and the hospital discharge planning staff will assist in making arrangements for your placement, hopefully in the nursing home of your choice.

This has resulted in more than $140 million donated strictly to environmental preservation and restoration. They reportedly donate 600 million pounds of food products to registered food banks each year as well. Walmart’s giving ranges across many philanthropic initiatives, including a recent $10 million pledge to Hurricane Ida Relief.
Fensterman said Woodmere overhauled its policies and procedures, and that the state signed off on an official plan of correction. Two years later, however, a 64-year-old Woodmere resident with schizophrenia left a secure unit 10 times over three months. Staffers found her in the basement and at the front door, but according to the state’s report, the home did not investigate, change her care plan or conduct a doctor-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
Sony only grants requests in writing with very specific guidelines. Johnson & Johnson focuses their corporate philanthropy initiatives on prenatal and maternal health, children, and infants. They address needs including global disease eradication, increasing access to women’s health, and disaster relief. The company reportedly gives upwards of $1 billion a year at minimum to charitable foundations, but they do not accept unsolicited requests. J&J also gives $2 for every $1 that their employees donate to a valid 501c3. Casey’s makes donations to nonprofit organizations that focus on hunger eradication and education, as well as, veteran affairs and first responders.
But federal data through August shows that 11 of SentosaCare’s homes exceeded the state average of 24 violations over the past three years, and three had double that number. Landa’s attorney and business partner, Howard Fensterman, declined to comment on Stewart’s case for reasons of patient privacy. Fensterman defended Avalon Gardens and other SentosaCare facilities, however, saying that when inspectors have found problems, the homes quickly addressed them and secured state approval of correction plans. They also focus huge attention on Veteran care through The Foundation’s Veteran Housing Grants Program. This program routinely gives $100,000-$500,000 to companies building or repairing facilities for Veterans. According to Home Depot, since 2011, they have given over $375 million to Veterans causes.
Fensterman, who served on the council from 2010 until 2014, recused himself from votes involving business partners and clients. ProPublica’s review of Health Department and council records did not turn up any nursing home ownership applications within the last five years that were rejected because of lapses in patient care. In most cases, the council — 24 volunteers appointed by the governor — follows the department’s recommendations.
Donors have a year from the date of the donation to submit a request. Their grants allow their nonprofit partners to purchase materials and supplies for community volunteer projects. They also contributed to their employees’ charities of choice through their Denim Day program, giving to a different nonprofit each month.
New York spends about $13 billion each year on the state’s 627 nursing homes, which collectively care for more than 100,000 residents. The Department of Health is charged with day-to-day oversight of safety, but patient advocates say the agency lacks the staff and expertise to do the job adequately. Fensterman is a former member of the state health council, as is Landa, who entered the nursing home business in the late 1980s and emerged as one of the sector’s biggest players over the next decade. Landa, Philipson or family members now hold stakes in at least 33 nursing homes in New York and an equal number in nine other states. Brookdale Senior Living was enacted in 1978 to be high-class retirement homes that were akin to the five-star hotels of the day.
